Week 3 of #Project42 where for one year I am volunteering with a new non-profit once a week, wherever I am in the world. This week, I am in my home state of Colorado, and had the chance to visit Round Up River Ranch in Dotsero, Colorado.
Week 3: Dotsero, Colorado
Roundup River Ranch offers old-fashioned, pure fun camp experiences for children with serious illnesses and their families. They have a 100 acre ranch, equipped with zip-line, archery courses, horse stables, arts & crafts, fishing ponds, and so much more! They offer year-round camp programs where campers and families the chance to enjoy the most extraordinarily ordinary joys of childhood.
Here, children are not defined by their illness.
At Round Up, campers can take a true vacation from being “a patient” and get back to the fun of being a child. Here, the healing power of laughter, friendship and shared experiences offer kids the chance to make new friends, find the courage to try activities they never thought possible, and build confidence.
The best part is that the camp is 100% free for the campers, they are providing a priceless experience, without a price tag.
How to Volunteer:
There are two main volunteer programs:
Family Camp – three nights and three days with campers and there families where you are a camp counselor working with the children and on the property.
Summer Camp – full week of camp, with children only! Register to volunteer to guide the kids as a camp counselor and help the full-time staff with the day-to-day needs of the camp.
